Piano Magic in the vines - Blackbarn Hawkes Bay

The piano is an amazing instrument, that forever changed the face of music as we know it – from classical to jazz and everything in between. The Piano has been an essential ingredient in producing great music

So we decided to have a party to celebrate, by creating Piano Magic in the Vines – a fantastic new light classical / jazz crossover concert to be held under the stars at Black Barn Vineyards in Havelock North.

I want you to have a great time tapping your feet to uplifting pieces such as Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata, Chopin’s ‘Fantasie Impromptu’, Strauss’s ‘Blue Danube Waltz,’ Brahm’s ‘Hungarian Dances’, extracts from Bizet’s ‘Carmen Opera’, and Gershwin’s ‘I’ve got Rhythm’ and ‘Embraceable You’.

The idea for this concert took root when a friend described attending piano concerts set amongst the vines of Europe. A vision of Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’ actually being played under the moonlight, on a concert-sized grand piano, in the amphitheatre at Black Barn took shape.

I imagined an audience who simply like a good time, nodding along to the rhythms, singing along to a few famous opera chorus lines, reflecting on timeless classic, all whilst sitting back under the twinkling stars, gazing out over the lights of Hawkes Bay.

One of the things about dreams is that when you share them, they often become reality.

My concert-sized grand is the real McCoy from Hastings Opera House, my musicians are a hugely talented group of young New Zealand stars, and the Black Barn venue is simply stunning.

We’ve created a program that’s light, familiar, and should get your heart racing. The music is for everyone, young and old, and no matter what your musical tastes.

Sign up now for what will be fantastic night under the stars – pure and simple ‘Piano Magic in the Vines
